Strom Street
About the house:
The open plan kitchen/living area is the hub of the house, it is raked ceilings and sunlight soaked. Its solar passive DNA is enhanced with earth tube ERVentilation system, 150 tonnes of concrete thermal mass inside the insulation envelop and triple glazed windows to the shady side. Exchange surfaces have a tactile finish of limestone and hardwood.
The Design Process
The client wanted sunlight and warmth. No dry hot air blowing round the house. House air is to feel fresh. All rooms to open on to the central kitchen/ living area. Layout adult friendly for easier kid growing. To do this we built a classical solar passive house around a central patio/yard area. We filled the North face with windows to lift the single large living area. We put in passive haus style ventilation with earth tube preconditioning and heat recovery.
